Today Villa Carlotta is a museum. Its art collection includes works by Canova, Thorvaldsen, Migliara and Hayez and furniture items from the time of the various owners. Marquis Giorgio Clerici of Milan constructed the villa in the late-seventeenth century.

During World War I, the Villa Carlotta was confiscated by the Italian state and its administration committed to the Ente Villa Carlotta.
