On the western shore of Lake Como, near the little hamlet of Ossuccio, the remarkable historic Villa Balbiano is well-hidden by the old walls and ancient garden.

Villa Balbiano Lake Como History

Villa Balbiano, a magnificent historical palazzo that previously belonged to the illustrious Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, was erected towards the end of the 16th century and served as his primary residence. A century later, Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini expanded and enhanced the initial construction. He utilised the Villa Balbiano to host gallant and extravagant parties where celebrations, dinners, and dances constantly followed one another. Since then, the villa’s grandeur has only increased with each new owner.

Villa Balbiano is considered one of Lake Como’s most historically significant villas. Recently, it underwent a thorough, important restoration that renowned French designer Jacques Garcia strictly supervised. As a result, the large old Maison is reminiscent of a royal palace.

At almost 2 acres, Villa Balbiano is currently also the largest private residence in Lake Como. It has an outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a private pier, numerous terraces, a boathouse, and a large, lavish garden that won recognition from the British Society of Garden Designers.

The most significant artefacts and valuable furniture pieces from previous centuries furnish the historic interiors of the villa. The most precious objects were purchased from Sotheby’s and Christie’s. Impressive frescoes from the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva, created in the 17th century, still adorn the walls. Villa Balbiano is one of the most abundant spots on Lake Como because of its historical heritage and unrivalled combination of artificial and natural beauty.

The main palazzo of Villa Balbiano has six opulent suites; renowned interior decorator Jacques Garcia uniquely created each.

The guests of Villa Balbiano adore an unmatched level of grandeur and sophisticated luxury, from the stunning views of Lake Como and the luxurious surroundings to the opulent marble baths.

This location is perfect for weddings, private parties and shootings. The elegant design, unique furniture, chic decor, extensive garden, two swimming pools, and private dock – are the perfect backdrop for an indeed luxury event.

The beauty of Lake of Como and the nature of Tremezzina makes this location distinctive.

The villa offers many options for symbolic ceremonies, parties, and receptions. In addition, the villa has easy access to the lake and a private boat dock. Thanks to it, guests can arrive at Villa Balbiano by boat in authentic Lake Como style.

The surrounding gardens can be used for a symbolic ceremony, and a wedding reception can serve a feast for up to 100 people. The cost of a Villa Balbiano wedding varies based on the selected options and conditions. Villa Balbiano is one of Lake Como’s most desirable and requested wedding locations.
