A Taste of Martesana on Lake Como: New Patisserie Opens
Martesana, the renowned Milanese pastry shop, has opened its first outlet in Como. This marks the brand’s inaugural patisserie outside Milan.
A Historic Legacy Since 1966
Martesana has been a cornerstone of traditional Italian patisserie for over fifty years, and it is celebrated for its exceptional quality and meticulous selection of premium raw materials. Every production stage reflects their dedication to excellence, from the dough to the fillings and decorations. Their most iconic creations include the Panettone, Veneziana, and Colomba, as well as fresh pastries like layered cakes and mignon pastries, artisan pralines, hand-sculpted biscuits, double-yeast croissants, and innovative reinterpretations of classics such as the Roman Maritozzo and the Salento Pasticciotto.
In addition to their sweet delights, Martesana is famed for its savoury offerings, earning the title of Italy’s Finest Savoury Patisserie from Gambero Rosso in 2018.
Expanding Horizons
This milestone comes amid significant expansion for Martesana, which has recently opened a new boutique in Milan, enhanced its e-commerce capabilities, and expanded B2B distribution to prestigious outlets like Rinascente and Coin, as well as internationally to Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Thailand, and Singapore.
Innovative Interior Design
The new patisserie in Piazza Volta, located in the historic and vibrant heart of Como, showcases innovative interior design. The project was brought to life through a collaboration with designer Maria Teresa Reccia, architect Marcello Silvestre, and creative director Luigi Durante. Drogheria, responsible for the interior design, aimed to create a seamless integration between the bustling piazza and the store’s interior, fostering a fluid, almost osmotic relationship between the outside and inside.
Introducing Martesana Gelato
The highlight of Martesana Pasticceria’s summer 2024 is the debut of their gelato, sorbets, and the iconic maritozzo filled with gelato instead of cream. Offering 18 flavours, from classic Italian gelato to modern interpretations of their historic desserts, the range includes cones, cups, and takeaway packages.
Martesana’s unique value proposition for its gelato lies in flavours that celebrate Maison’s history: the “Crema Pasticciera 1966” uses the original recipe with Tahitian vanilla beans, fresh eggs, and delicate lemon notes; “Torta Martesana” includes pieces of their signature cake; and “Panettone” features chunks of their iconic dessert, prepared with the traditional 48-hour process, combined with candied orange and golden raisins.
