What to do on Lake Como in November?

November on Lake Como is a time when the sky changes its color from bright azure to cold leaden, a time of full-bodied red wines, museums and villas, the scents of glühwein and Christmas markets. Here are some ideas on what to do on Lake Como in November.

Museums in Como

On November 3, the first Sunday of the month, all state museums are traditionally open in Como and the province. On this day it is possible to visit Museo Archeologico Paolo Giovio, Pinacoteca civica di Palazzo Volpi, Tempio Voltiano, Museo storico Giuseppe Garibaldi free of charge.

Villas on Lake Como

On November 3, at 15:30, Villa Castello di Urio, located between Moltrazio and Karate, will be open to the public. The villa was built by order of the Count of Porta on the ruins of a 16th century fortification. It used to belong to such noble families as Salazar, Castelbarco and Melzi d’Eril and was famous for the elaborate receptions and naval battles that were organized to surprise the guests.

The entry ticket is 18 euros.

Truffle hunting

On November 10 at 10:45 a.m. Villa Carcano in collaboration with the Association of truffle hunters organizes a black truffle hunt. Together with professional hunters and their trained dogs the guests will go to search for rare speciality. Upon return, a truffle snack and a glass of red wine will be offered to all the participants to get warm and savour the taste.

The cost is 25 euros for adults, 10 euros for children.

Exhibitions in Como

From September 28th to November 17th, Como is hosting the 29th International Exhibition of Contemporary Textile Art Miniartextil POP-UP. Artists from all over the world will present their works of textile art, in which they tried to reflect the current problems and threats of mankind.

From October 12 to November 17, Como is hosting another modern art project the StreetScape8. 

The purpose of this project is to transform the city, to revitalize its historical, artistic, architectural and museum heritage through the works of contemporary art.

The installations and sculptures are presented in the following locations of the city: Piazza Duomo, Como Lago Station public toilet, Piazza Volta, Piazza Medaglie d’Oro, the courtyard of the Municipality of Como, the cultural center Chiostrino Artificio.

Christmas market and Magic Light Festival in Como

On November 23, the city of Como will be transformed into a magical Christmas location with the opening of the 26th edition of Citta dei Balocchi. The ice rink and Christmas market with its typical wooden houses will be placed in piazza Cavour. At night Como will surprise its guests with Magic Light Festival illuminating cathedral and buildings in Piazza Duomo, piazza San Fedele and Piazza Volta.

Gastronomic festivals near Como

From November 30 to December 8, it is possible to visit the International Craft Exhibition Artigiano in fiera that will take place at the Fieramilano Rho-Pero in Milan. India, China, France, Spain, Italy, etc. – for 9 days only one can visit and taste all countries of the world. Each pavilion of the exhibition center will be dedicated to a specific country, its culture, traditions and cuisine. Visitors will enjoy musical concerts, dance performances and cooking classes.
