Photo: Lake Como Design Fair in Como

From 20 to 23 September 2018, Lake Como Design Fair was held in Como for the first time. It opened its doors at the Teatro Sociale, an ideal setting between the Gothic cathedral and the Casa del Fascio in Como city. However, it is not accessed from the theatre’s grand atrium but from the stairs of a discreet side entrance, which lead to the first floor.
The Art Fair takes shape here in a larger space, crisscrossed by rooms and corridors that communicate with each other and play with gigantic mirrors and windows of the theatre. These are the halls of the Ridotto, those reserved for the theatre owners of the Como Theatre.
Artists from different countries presented objects of modern design in 4 categories: chairs, vessels, screens, paintings.
An original choice of art objects, curated by Margherita Ratti, the exhibition curator, follow one another through the rooms of the Teatro Sociale, continuing the architectural dialogue presented outside, where rationalist works coexist with the theatre itself and the adjacent Como main cathedral.
Margherita Ratti planned the show so that each piece of contemporary art fits into the interior of the ancient Teatro Sociale, which hosted the event in Como city.
The exhibition featured works by new talents: Giuseppe Arezzi, Cara Davide, Jonas Lutz, Thelonious Goupil, as well as recognized masters: Mattia Bonetti, Andrea Branzi, Konstantin Grcic, Donald Judd, Giorgia Zanellato, Dean Brown, David Dubois, Stories of Italy.
All the works presented at the exhibition were available for sale.
