Travellers looking to venture beyond Lake Como’s busiest towns this summer have a new stop to add to their itinerary. Villa Làrio, the boutique hotel in Pognana Lario, has reopened after a seasonal refurbishment with a new dining concept called Casa Làrio, Bottega & Cocktails.

While the hotel has long been known as a luxury retreat, the biggest news for visitors is that its latest addition is designed not only for overnight guests but also for those exploring the lake for the day.

A New Option for Lunch, Aperitivo or Dinner

Open daily from 12.30pm until 10pm, Casa Làrio offers a more relaxed alternative to the formal fine dining often associated with luxury hotels on Lake Como. The menu focuses on Italian classics and regional ingredients in an informal setting overlooking the water, making it suitable for everything from a leisurely lunch to sunset drinks or dinner.

One feature that sets it apart is its accessibility by boat. Visitors arriving on the lake can dock at the property’s private jetty, although spaces are limited and advance booking is recommended.

Why Pognana Lario Is Worth the Detour

Pognana Lario often sits in the shadow of well-known destinations such as Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio, yet its quieter atmosphere is exactly what attracts many repeat visitors to Lake Como.

Located on the eastern shore between Como and Bellagio, the village offers uninterrupted lake views, historic villas and a slower pace of life. Villa Làrio itself occupies a waterfront estate surrounded by mature cedar trees, making it one of the few places where visitors can combine lakeside dining with direct access from the water.

Botanical Cocktails with a Local Twist

Alongside the restaurant, Villa Làrio has expanded its Botanical Bar, where cocktails are inspired by herbs grown in the property’s own gardens.

The drinks menu follows a “Garden-to-Glass” philosophy, using house-made syrups, infusions and seasonal botanicals while reducing waste wherever possible. It’s an approach that reflects the growing interest in sustainable mixology across Lake Como’s hospitality scene.

A Growing Food Scene on the Eastern Shore

The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Davide Maci, whose menu combines traditional Italian flavours with a contemporary approach. Rather than creating another formal tasting experience, Casa Làrio aims to offer accessible dishes that encourage relaxed, shared dining.

The opening also reflects a wider trend on Lake Como, where luxury hotels are increasingly creating restaurants and bars that welcome local residents and day visitors, not just hotel guests.

Planning Your Visit to Casa Làrio

If you’re touring Lake Como by car or boat, Casa Làrio could make a worthwhile stop between Como and Bellagio, particularly if you’re looking to escape the crowds without compromising on scenery.

Its lakeside setting, continuous opening hours and informal atmosphere make it suitable for travellers seeking a long lunch, an afternoon aperitivo or dinner overlooking the water.

As always during the summer season, reservations are advisable, particularly for terrace tables and boat arrivals.
