Villa Balbiano Lake Como, like a Royal Palace
On the western shore of Lake Como, near the little hamlet of Ossuccio, the remarkable historic Villa Balbiano is well-hidden by the old walls and ancient garden.
Villa Balbiano Lake Como History
Villa Balbiano, a magnificent historical palazzo that previously belonged to the illustrious Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, was erected towards the end of the 16th century and served as his primary residence. A century later, Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini expanded and enhanced the initial construction. He utilised the Villa Balbiano to host gallant and extravagant parties where celebrations, dinners, and dances constantly followed one another. Since then, the villa’s grandeur has only increased with each new owner.
Villa Balbiano is considered one of Lake Como’s most historically significant villas. Recently, it underwent a thorough, important restoration that renowned French designer Jacques Garcia strictly supervised. As a result, the large old Maison is reminiscent of a royal palace.
