Tremezzina Music Festival: Jazz by Lake Como

  • August 4, 2025 19:00 - August 7, 2025 21:00

From 4 to 7 August 2025, the town of Tremezzina on Lake Como’s western shore will once again become the stage for the Tremezzina Music Festival, now in its 22nd edition. The event, curated by the cultural association Musicamorfosi, brings together internationally renowned musicians, emerging jazz talents, and a vibrant programme of concerts in some of the area’s most iconic lakeside venues.

The festival is supported by the Municipality of Tremezzina, Pro Helvetia, SIAE, and the Italian Ministry of Culture through the “Per Chi Crea” programme, and benefits from the patronage of the Lombardy Region.

Opening Day – Monday 4 August

Villa Carlotta, 18:30 (ticketed)
The festival opens with a special early evening performance in the gardens of Villa Carlotta, featuring the duo Federica Lorusso (vocals) and Pietro Aloi (piano). Their project Conversations explores the interplay between voice and piano in a format that avoids traditional roles of soloist and accompanist, instead building a continuous, lyrical dialogue across jazz standards and Brazilian classics. The performance is part of Prodjgi, a platform for young Italian jazz artists supported by the “Per Chi Crea” initiative.
Tickets: €6–15 (includes museum and garden access).

Parco Teresio Olivelli, 21:00 (free entry)
Later in the evening, Norwegian tuba virtuoso Daniel Herskedal will present a rare solo concert. Known for his deep, meditative sound and fusion of jazz, classical and Scandinavian folk influences, Herskedal recently contributed to Paolo Sorrentino’s film Parthenope. His performance promises a moving exploration of tone and emotion, delivered with technical mastery and sonic innovation.

Tuesday 5 August

Parco Teresio Olivelli, 21:00 (free entry)
Cuban pianist, singer, and composer Jany McPherson takes to the stage for a solo performance. A rising star on the international jazz scene, McPherson is acclaimed for her expressive style and rhythmic sophistication. Her latest album A Long Way showcases her distinctive fusion of Latin roots with improvisational elegance. Her Tremezzina performance will blend complex harmonic structures with soulful melodic phrasing, revealing a deeply personal musical language.

Wednesday 6 August

Parco Teresio Olivelli, 21:00 (free entry)
The third evening of the festival will feature Badrya Razem, an Italian-Algerian vocalist with a dynamic stage presence. Joined by her ensemble — Nicolò Petrafesa (Fender Rhodes), Nunzio Laviero (double bass), Vitantonio Gasparro (vibraphone), and Fabio Accardi (drums) — Razem will present Bacharach Mon Amour, a tribute to the legendary Burt Bacharach. The programme revisits timeless hits with fresh arrangements, weaving together Bacharach’s refined pop sensibilities with jazz-inflected textures and Razem’s powerful vocals.

Thursday 7 August

Piazza della Magnolia, Mezzegra, 09:30 (free entry)
The final day begins with a morning concert by vibraphonist Gabriele Boggio Ferraris. Performing solo under the shade of Mezzegra’s historic magnolia tree, Ferraris will offer a reinterpretation of J.S. Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, blending classical structures with improvisation. A graduate with highest honours, Ferraris has worked alongside some of jazz’s leading figures and is recognised for his refined technique and tonal warmth.

Parco Teresio Olivelli, 21:00 (free entry)
The festival concludes with an electrifying performance by Swiss saxophonist and composer Christoph Grab and his band Root Area, in a special tribute to Ray Charles titled The RAY Session. Known for his work that bridges blues, funk, gospel and even Swiss folk melodies, Grab recently received the 2023 Swiss Jazz Award. Together with Victoria Mozalevskaya (saxophones), Marcel Thomi (Hammond organ), and Elmar Frey (drums), he reimagines Charles’s classics as contemporary jazz compositions, retaining the soul and emotional depth of the originals.

Music Meets Tradition

Set in the breathtaking landscape of Lake Como, the Tremezzina Music Festival is not only a celebration of musical excellence but also a reflection of the region’s cultural richness. The venues — from historic villas to lakeside parks — provide a unique ambience where classical elegance meets artistic innovation.

Whether through the tropical rhythms of Cuba, the cool tonalities of the Nordic fjords, or the soul-stirring power of jazz improvisation, this year’s edition reinforces the festival’s reputation as one of Lombardy’s most distinctive summer events.
