Feeling Colour: Jim Lambie & David Batchelor in Como

Colour takes over the historic setting of San Pietro in Atrio in Feeling Colour, an exhibition bringing together two major figures in contemporary British art: Jim Lambie and David Batchelor. Featuring works from the Tate collection, the exhibition explores how colour can transform architecture and change the way we perceive and move through a space.

At the heart of the exhibition is Jim Lambie’s Zobop, his celebrated installation made from bands of brightly coloured vinyl tape. Following the contours of the room, the work spreads across the floor in a vibrant geometric pattern, turning the architecture itself into part of the experience. The Como installation was created with the participation of students from the Aldo Galli Academy.

Lambie’s work is paired with David Batchelor’s I Love King’s Cross and King’s Cross Loves Me, 8, from his Monochromobiles series. Constructed from found industrial materials, metal and vivid coloured surfaces, the sculpture draws inspiration from illuminated signs, street lights and the visual energy of the modern city.

Together, the two works create a striking dialogue with the proportions and natural light of the former church. Rather than simply presenting colour as a feature of an artwork, Feeling Colour invites visitors to experience how it can reshape an entire environment.

About the artists:
Scottish artist Jim Lambie (b. 1964, Glasgow) is known for transforming everyday materials and architectural spaces through colour, pattern and rhythm. Influenced by music and popular culture, he was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2005. David Batchelor (b. 1955, Dundee) is an artist and writer whose work explores colour in contemporary urban life through sculpture, installation and light. He is also the author of the influential book Chromophobia.
