Throughout the European fashion accessories history fans played an essential role. Starting from the XV century, fans become an element of elegance and social status. The fashionable lady dress has been not complete without the addition of a fan. The prestigious artists of the time produced fans from the best materials, and they became real art pieces.

The exhibition “Fiori nel vento. Floral fans from the XIX century”, organised by the curator of the House Museum Anna Ranzi, will be open to the public until September 27, 2020. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire a series of fans dating back to the XIX century.

The pieces presented at the exhibition in Villa Monastero show the transition from fans made of handpainted paper to those made of cloth with embroideries. The materials are becoming cheaper and cheaper towards the end of the century.

Dates: From July 4 until September 27, 2020

Place: Villa Monastero, Via G.Polvani, 4, 23829 Varenna LC
