The Silver of the Duke: Precious Artifacts from Villa Carlotta

  • April 16, 2025 11:00 - 12:30

A special exhibition titled “The Silver of the Duke” will take place at Villa Carlotta, showcasing the exquisite techniques and craftsmanship behind silverware and metal objects. This selection highlights a rich collection representing English, German, and French silver production from the 19th and 20th centuries.

These remarkable pieces were once owned by the Dukes of Sachsen-Meiningen, the last proprietors of the villa, and they serve as a testament to the luxury and refinement of the receptions and formal dinners held by the family on the shores of Lake Como.

Recent restoration efforts and cataloguing campaigns have enhanced the understanding of the origins and production techniques of these artefacts, allowing them to be displayed to the public for the first time.

The thematic visit is included in the entrance ticket and will be conducted in Italian.

This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the artistry and history of precious silver objects from a bygone era.
