Experience the breathtaking beauty of Lake Como on the ancient Sentiero del Viandante (“Wayfarer’s Path”), a scenic trail that winds through charming villages, terraced vineyards, and olive groves. This easy 9 km hike combines history, nature, and stunning lake views, making it ideal for families and first-time visitors to the region.
Our journey begins in Varenna, a picturesque lakeside village with narrow cobbled streets, colourful houses, and a lovely promenade. From there, we’ll ascend to the hamlet of Vezio, dominated by its medieval castle. Here, participants can visit Vezio Castle, learn about its fascinating legends—including ghost stories—and enjoy panoramic views over Lake Como.
We then continue along a gently undulating path through olive groves and points of interest such as the remains of the Rogoledo funicular, once serving the Grand Hotel Regoledo, and the Orrido di Bellano, a dramatic gorge carved by the Pioverna River. The hike ends at Bellano station, where participants can take the train back to Varenna.
